Combining LED light sculptures and 3D animations – The Nantou Sand Sculpture Art Festival opens in January

The sand sculpture art festival, on hiatus for a year, is back again. As the 2014 Taiwan Lantern Festival was held in Nantou, a special sand sculpture lantern area was planned. Sixty sand sculptures of various designs will be exhibited starting January 25, 2014, at the high ground along the Maoluo River. The event will also feature LED light sculptures and 3D animations, presenting spectacular light shows and three-dimensional projection performances.

The sand sculpture art festival will run from January 25 to March 9, 2014, starting earlier and ending later than the lantern festival. The 60 creative sand sculptures not only mark the largest quantity and scale in nearly five years but also include the world’s first 3D animation stage area featuring a sand wall as a screen. However, the light sculptures and 3D animations will be launched in sync with the lantern festival on February 7.

The Nantou Sand Sculpture Art Festival is making its comeback under the name “2014 Nantou Lantern Festival Sand Sculpture Lantern Area & Nantou International Sand Sculpture Art Festival.” It will be divided into two exhibition areas—inside and outside the Sand City. Outside the city, there will be works from creation competitions and an experience zone. Inside the city, in addition to the 3D animation stage area, there will be a future city and a variety of sand sculptures reflecting Taiwanese culture and imagery.
