Even though Taichung didn't have the Yellow Duck or the little panda "Yuan Zai", 100 life-sized teddy bears with their adorable appearances still brought comfort to the citizens of Taichung. For those still lamenting the end of the teddy bear exhibition, don’t worry—from the 18th onwards, the cute teddy bears will take on the roles of indigenous people and reunite with the public at the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village in Nantou.

From the end of November 2013 (last year) until yesterday (the 5th), the 100 teddy bears that appeared in various spots around Taichung City, with their cute poses and diverse designs showcasing Taichung’s and even Taiwan’s unique cultural industries and tourism features, made this “teddy bear craze” compete with the Yellow Duck and panda Yuan Zai, even sparking a trend of “collecting all 100 teddy bears.” According to organizer statistics, in just 40 days of the exhibition, over 3 million visitors came to see the bears, generating over NT$1 billion in surrounding business, comparable to the Yellow Duck.

Although the street exhibition of 100 teddy bears in Taichung has ended, those who haven’t seen the cute bears need not be disappointed yet. The Taiwan Teddy Bear Association has signed an agreement with the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village—starting from January 18th to April 20th, 28 adorable teddy bears will dress up in the costumes of Taiwan’s 14 indigenous tribes and sing mountain songs and ride the cable car with the public at the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village.

Also moving to the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village for display will be 30 antique, handcrafted teddy bears from World War II provided by the Swiss Teddy Bear Museum, as well as 36 exquisite handcrafted teddy bear works by Taiwanese and Japanese Teddy Bear Association artists. Additionally, the organizers will select 22 differently painted teddy bears that previously appeared in Qiuhong Valley and Caowu Path and move them to the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, allowing those who haven’t had the chance to see them to enjoy them all at once.

And the must-ride Alishan Sun Moon Lake Cable Car and Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village Cable Car will also get a makeover for the event. A total of 125 cabins across the two cable cars will be painted with teddy bear designs, and inside the cabins, life-sized teddy bear dolls will accompany visitors to enjoy the scenery of the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village and Sun Moon Lake, as well as the upcoming cherry blossom and lavender seasons.
