Taiwan’s First — Renowned Chef Peggy Chen Wins Asia’s Best Female Chef Award

Organized by the UK-based William Reed Business Media, the “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” list holds significant influence in the international culinary scene. On the 14th, the organizers announced the winner of the “2014 Veuve Clicquot Asia’s Best Female Chef” award, which went to Peggy Chen from Taiwan — the first Taiwanese chef to receive this honor. Chen will travel to Singapore on February 24 to attend the “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” awards ceremony.

“Being recognized by every expert in the culinary industry on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants panel is truly an extraordinary achievement for me,” said Peggy Chen. Food has always been an essential part of her life growing up in Taiwan, where she developed a passion for cooking from a young age and found joy in sharing meals with others.

Peggy Chen graduated from the prestigious École Ferrandi Paris (ESCF-Ferrandi), and has worked alongside renowned French pastry chef Pierre Hermé and other top chefs in France. She has also gained experience at Michelin-starred restaurants. Upon returning to Taiwan, she opened Le Mout French Restaurant in Taichung in 2008, infusing local Taiwanese ingredients and characteristics into classic French cuisine, and offering dishes that blend traditional French techniques with modern creativity.

The “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” list is in its second year of publication, featuring participants from 25 countries and regions including Bangladesh, Myanmar, Brunei, Bhutan, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Thailand, and Taiwan.
