Discovering a hidden culinary gem: Revisiting Taichung’s VAPIANO for pizza

The first time I visited VAPIANO, I didn’t try the pizza. This time, everyone raved about it, saying it’s even better than the pasta—how could I miss out on that flavor? Of course, I had to come back for a slice.

I even picked a weekend to check out the holiday vibe and crowd. Thanks to the teddy bear exhibit, parking here on weekends has been nearly impossible lately—I always see endless traffic on Zhongxing Street.

But surprisingly, there was no need to queue at VAPIANO even on the weekend. I appreciated that they manage the number of guests inside. Also, I noticed they now assign seats on holidays. When I first visited during its opening, we had to choose our own spots. Crowd control is definitely a good thing—otherwise, it could get overwhelming when busy.

Just like before, each person gets a “hanging tag” to start ordering food.



This time, just like last time, we sat in the red sofa area on the second floor. The whole place felt more lively and staff seemed more experienced compared to my first visit. Especially the staff at the drink station on the second floor—when I came the first time, he seemed a bit new, but this time he was much more skilled. XD

Coming here on a weekend felt really nice to me—simple Italian pasta, pizza, and the atmosphere of Green Park Road made everything feel effortlessly relaxing. I think that’s what makes this place appealing.








This time, the two of us only ordered one pizza and one dessert. Honestly, I felt that was the perfect amount. The tiramisu was incredibly delicious—creamy, fresh, and honestly one of the best I’ve had. Plus, serving it in that “preservation jar” gave it a fun twist.

With crowd control in place, when we left after our meal, I noticed people waiting outside. It wasn’t as crowded as I expected, but during peak hours you might still have to wait. The first-floor customers were a bit more packed than during my last visit.




We ordered the “Hawaiian” pizza, and I was honestly shocked by how big it was when we got it. Glad I only ordered one, or I would’ve needed to take some home. Judging by its size compared to the table, if a family of four were sharing, maybe two pastas and one pizza would be enough to go around.

For two people, just one pizza and one salad to start—better not to order too much at once because fresh food is always tastier. XD


Hawaiian is my go-to basic pizza flavor—it’s an easy way to judge how good a pizza place is. And the result? Thin crust, chewy and fragrant, all the toppings super fresh. It really lived up to the hype—it’s even better than the pasta. I have to say, “you all” know the real gems better than I do. I’m so glad you shared these with me. XD

These days, wood-fired pizza places are popping up everywhere. I have to say, I truly love that wood-fired taste. Of course, every place has its differences. To answer a fan’s question: if I had to name the “top” pizza place in Taichung that comes to mind, which would it be?

To be honest, it’s “Puzzle,” which I tried two years ago. It’s now called “Puzzle Food Library” near COSCO. The prices aren’t cheap, but it’s great for group dinners. I’ll definitely go back for another try sometime. XD






After eating and drinking our fill, I love strolling along Green Park Road on weekends. If I’m bored, I’ll wander over to Eslite Ximending, browse books, check out stationery, or watch the puppies and kids playing in the sunshine. Here, it always feels like people are genuinely happy and content.

I don’t need big dreams—just smiling under the sunlight like this feels like enough. I think a lot of people must feel the same way about this place. It’s truly become a new hub for Taichung locals. We’ll all have shared memories here—the cute signboard characters, the drink shops, the teddy bears, and the memories of eating cotton candy.
