A Real-Life Flying Train: Yilan Unveils Its First "Jimmy Liao Railway Station"

Travel with Jimmy Liao!/ Yilan County has created the nation’s first “Jimmy Liao Railway Station,” extending the original Jimmy Liao Square to Yilan Railway Station. With themes such as "Starry Starry Night" and "When Spring Comes in the Afternoon," the station’s exterior walls have been decorated. (Doodoo) (Doodoo) The square will also be transformed into a zone of Jimmy Liao installation art. Starting from the 21st, you can see a large installation artwork from the picture book — a flying train with five carriages — suspended above the square.

As part of the “2014 Happy Yilan Year Street Decoration” event, Yilan County Government collaborated with author Jimmy Liao’s design team to extend the original Jimmy Liao Square to Yilan Railway Station. Large images from Jimmy Liao’s picture books will be displayed on the station’s exterior walls using canvas prints and fiberglass, turning the station into a true “Jimmy Liao Station.” The county government has also partnered with the railway administration and plans to issue customized “Happy Yilan” train tickets in the near future.

The county government stated that (Doodoo) (Doodoo) Square will be developed into a zone of Jimmy Liao installation art. Visitors can see a real-life version of the flying train connected to the locomotive from Jimmy Liao’s work "Starry Starry Night." A lighting ceremony will be held on the 21st, and guided tours will be available on weekends (the 25th and 26th) at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 3 p.m. Additionally, the “Travel with Jimmy Liao” activity will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The county government noted that the “Travel with Jimmy Liao” activity will start from the railway station and explore the old town area along a route featuring Jimmy Liao installation art zones, including Zhongshan Park, Dongyue Temple, the entrance hall of the Old Yilan Prison, and the Yilan Literature Museum, offering visitors a unique experience of Yilan. The service will also be available from New Year’s Day to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, with guided tours every weekend thereafter.
