Breathtaking time-lapse of clouds over the Grand Canyon moves netizens to tears

Known as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon National Park in the United States features uniquely winding rock formations carved by the river over millennia. It attracts millions of visitors each year and stands as one of the most renowned tourist destinations in the country. A photographer from the U.S. spent two years capturing time-lapse footage of the Grand Canyon, condensing the majestic sea of clouds over this UNESCO World Heritage Site into a roughly two-minute video. The rare and spectacular natural scenery left netizens deeply moved, with many saying they were brought to tears.

Established in 1919, the Grand Canyon National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. The east-west oriented canyon landscape was shaped over millennia by the erosive power of the Colorado River. The cliffs along the river display vibrant colors, with the deepest part of the canyon reaching 1,500 meters. This world-class scenic spot attracted over 5.9 million visitors last year, generating $900 million in tourism revenue for the region.

Aside from offering breathtaking panoramic views of the canyon, American photographer Harun Mehmedinović also captured the rare and magnificent sea of clouds within the Grand Canyon. After spending two years visiting the site multiple times to shoot, he condensed natural phenomena such as the canyon’s clouds, starry skies, the Milky Way, and lightning into a stunning 2-minute and 15-second video. Vast waves of fog envelop and drift across the canyon, undulating like ocean waves. He described the experience as “like walking on clouds.”
