Every time I pass by the area near Nanping Road during meal hours, I see long lines of people picking up takeout from Imperial Cantonese Congee. When I was nearby again, I thought, “What better food to have in the cold winter than something warm?” Aside from Cantonese congee, the shop also offers pan-fried spaghetti and udon noodles. If you want to take out but don’t want to wait, you can call ahead to pre-order and bring your meal home to enjoy Up~

Parking nearby might be a bit tricky around Nanping Road or Zhongzheng Road. If it’s hard to find parking, taking out is a good option. By the way, the sweet potato fries at the corner shop are delicious too.

The shop mainly sells various types of congee, but they also offer other noodle dishes. The prices are reasonable — no wonder there’s always a long queue!

Ingredients are pre-prepared, and most of the frequently ordered dishes come ready with ingredients portioned out.

Signature Overlord Congee $100

I was really super hungry this time, so I went for the most luxurious signature Overlord Congee, thinking it would have the richest ingredients. Honestly, I didn’t even know what was inside — I just wanted to eat something hearty!

The congee was packed with ingredients — premium abalone, squid, shrimp, and even crispy deep-fried dough sticks on top. It was loaded and incredibly generous. Seeing all these tasty, high-quality ingredients, I instantly understood why there’s always such a long line. Though I’m not a big fan of the taste of the premium abalone — it had a bit of an unusual flavor — the congee had a melt-in-your-mouth texture, and every spoonful came with bits of toppings. It was truly satisfying.

Pork Liver & Lean Meat Spaghetti $70

They use Tainan-style spaghetti here. The broth, like the congee, had a rich aroma. The noodles had an eggy flavor that absorbed the soup well. Though soft, they weren’t mushy, and the taste was pretty good.

Beef Udon Noodles $70

The kids immediately wanted udon noodles when they saw them, and naturally, they chose their favorite — beef. It had that pan-fried noodle vibe.

The beef used is from leaner cuts, which makes it a bit drier, but that actually makes it more suitable for kids.

This trip to Imperial Cantonese Congee in the Nanping Road shopping district had us trying three different noodle dishes and congees. I still think the Cantonese congee was the best. After this meal, I totally get why the business is doing so well — the prices are very affordable, and the portions are generous and hearty.
