Travelers leaving Thailand: Power banks without “this” won’t be allowed on the plane

When traveling abroad, many people carry power banks to keep their phones fully charged. Since power banks contain lithium batteries, which pose a risk of self-ignition, all airlines prohibit them in checked luggage and only allow them in carry-on bags on the plane. While this aviation safety rule has been in place for years and is widely known, did you know that even if you carry a power bank in your hand luggage, it could still be confiscated?

According to a report by Hong Kong Apple Daily, if you're departing from Thailand, it's best to check whether the capacity rating on your power bank is clearly labeled. Based on regulations at Thai airport security checkpoints regarding passengers carrying power banks, if there is no information displayed on the power bank (such as mAh or V), and its capacity cannot be verified, the security checkpoint will not allow it on board and will confiscate it.

In fact, besides Thailand, mainland China has the same regulation. Power banks without visible capacity information are not permitted on flights. So next time you're departing from Thailand or mainland China, remember to check whether the capacity rating on your power bank is clearly visible. If you're worried about the label fading, you might consider covering it with transparent tape to reduce the chance of it rubbing off.
