Capture stunning forest-inspired vibes: Xitou’s new landmark, “Taiwan’s Longest Wooden Bridge,” now open

Nantou can be called the “hometown of scenic bridges.” In addition to the recently opened Qingjing Skywalk, a new structure in Xitou Nature Education Area has been added — touted as Taiwan’s longest wooden bridge. Viewed from afar, it resembles a brown wave resting on a sea of green, becoming a new highlight in Xitou.

This newly built, Taiwan’s longest wooden bridge is named “Ginkgo Bridge.” It took four years to construct, led by faculty and students from National Taiwan University. Stretching 36 meters in length, it is currently the longest wooden-structured bridge in Taiwan. Designed with the image of ginkgo leaves standing by the stream, the bridge is mainly built using local Taiwan cypress wood, seamlessly blending into the surrounding natural scenery. Beyond being a visual attraction, it also serves functions in soil and water conservation and flood prevention. As visitors stroll along the path, they can enjoy the forest views on both sides, while also benefiting from its ecological educational value.

The Ginkgo Bridge connects to the most famous ginkgo forest trail within Xitou Nature Education Area, offering a bird’s-eye view of the Sacred Tree Stream. The fresh air is rich in negative ions, immersing visitors in the embrace of nature. It is now open to the public and, together with the University Pond Bamboo Arch Bridge, forms two of the most beautiful bridges in Xitou.
