Dihua Street Embraces a Creative Culture Trend: Ride a YouBike to Shop for New Year Goods and Explore Freely

As Lunar New Year approaches, the popularity of the Dihua Street shopping district continues to soar. This year, in addition to traditional New Year goods, the Dihua New Year Goods Street has also embraced a creative culture trend in its alleys and lanes. Coupled with the recent completion of nearby YouBike rental stations, visitors can now enjoy an alternative experience—cycling through the historic district and popping into creative shops. As such, Taipei City’s Department of Commerce has specially recommended the “Taipei New Year Goods Alleys” as must-visit spots, inviting the public to experience the creative New Year spirit on Dihua Street.
According to Huang Yi-yu, Director of Taipei City’s Department of Commerce, the Dihua New Year Goods Street has attracted over 600,000 visitors in just under two weeks since opening. In addition to soaking in the bustling festive atmosphere, visitors can now ride YouBikes from the newly added rental stations near Dihua Street—namely Yongle Market and the MRT Daqiaotou Station on both the northern and southern sides—to leisurely explore the charm of the Taipei New Year Goods Alleys.

Wu Jung-ho, Chairman of the Taipei Dihua Commercial District Development Promotion Association, said that in recent years, the number of young and international visitors to the Dihua commercial area has increased by approximately 20%, particularly tourists from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China. In addition to the historic street architecture and the lively atmosphere of the New Year Goods Street, what most attract visitors are the creative shops gradually setting up in the alleys. These shops incorporate innovative elements that blend the characteristics of the commercial area and historical buildings, infusing a sense of new vitality into the traditional Dadaocheng area.
The emerging creative shops in the Dihua commercial area are mostly scattered in the alleys, including “frog.cafe” founded by Frog, “Mushroom,” and “248 Farming Market” established by Yang Rudemen. Around Dadaocheng Park, there’s also “Qin Jing,” which specializes in nostalgic sundries, and the themed café “Dou Wei.” Behind the Xia Hai City God Temple, you’ll find “Luo Café & Bar,” “Wild Stage Tsukiji,” as well as creative goods stores like “Spring Pig Studio” and “You,” allowing visitors to not only shop for New Year goods and stroll the main street but also experience the creative industry of the Dihua commercial area.
