Direct access via “Taiwan’s most beautiful railway branch line”! Keelung National Museum of Marine Science & Technology opens

The highly anticipated Keelung National Museum of Marine Science & Technology officially opened this morning (26th)! Designed with a nautical concept, the museum is the largest in Asia and has previously undergone trial operations of its themed exhibits and temporary closures for maintenance. Today, Premier Jiang Yi-huah declared the museum open with a whistle-blowing ceremony and unveiled its completion plaque. He also led 30 indigenous children in an interactive visit to the SOS Globe Theater in the Marine Science Hall, centered around the theme “Seeing the Earth.”

 Covering an area of 48 hectares, the museum is the largest in Asia dedicated to marine science education. Previously opened sections include the Regional Exploration Hall, the Marine Theater, and the Theme Hall, which officially opened today at 11:00 AM. The site was formerly the North Thermal Power Plant. After 24 years of planning since 1990, it has been dubbed “Taiwan’s longest-in-the-making museum.”The museum also features “Taiwan’s most beautiful railway branch line — the Shen’ao Line,” which resumed service on January 9.Passengers can take the Shen’ao Line directly to the museum with seamless transportation access, and the revival of the museum is set to revitalize the entire Badouzi area.

Additionally, in mid-2017, the museum will complete construction of the “Marine Ecology Exhibition Hall (Aquarium),” which will be the largest aquarium in Asia, further enriching the museum’s offerings.
