He's here, and so is happiness — the warmth brought by the Bluebird Action Coffee Truck

After several days of good weather, which were perfect for pre-New Year spring cleaning, by the time I finally had some free time to go out, the weather had turned gloomy and dull again — quite a letdown, really. But no worries, a friend who works at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park invited me out for a walk, and it gave me a chance to play the part of a hipster once more.

As I strolled around, I ended up at the small plaza in front of Eslite Songyan Store, where a mini market formed by several small trucks, commonly known as "fat cards," had just gathered. With the rise of the entrepreneurial wave in recent years, these cute and eye-catching little trucks have become a top choice for many starting their own businesses. The owners of these fat cards have put their heart and soul into creating mobile shops with their own unique character, adding a lot of charm to popular spots bustling with people.

But this article doesn’t have much space to discuss all the different fat cards I encountered today. It’s mainly to commemorate my encounter with the Bluebird Action Coffee Truck — a mobile coffee shop I’ve been planning to find for ages but never managed to until now.

The Bluebird Action Coffee Truck has a very eye-catching design, with its warm brown body adorned with a large blue bluebird. Even hidden among the many fat cards, it’s not hard to spot.

No wonder there are actually fans who make weekend outings a mission to follow this bluebird around.

Perhaps out of consideration for the fans who travel back and forth across the country, or maybe because the Bluebird Action Coffee Truck has built up a solid following through hard work, it recently set up a permanent spot — the Bluebird Home Cafe in Taoyuan City. But even so, this bluebird hasn’t stopped moving and continues to roam around, serving coffee lovers everywhere.

Drink prices range between NT$60 and NT$90, which is quite affordable. If you’re not a coffee drinker, there are also milk tea and latte options to choose from.

The drink menu is primarily based on espresso and milk, keeping things clean and simple.

I watched as the owner skillfully ground the beans, tamped the coffee, attached the portafilter, extracted the shot, and frothed the milk — all done in just a few smooth moves.

While the owner was brewing my coffee, I chatted with him briefly. I had thought that when the Bluebird Action Coffee Truck was out on the road, the Bluebird Home Cafe would be closed. But I learned that the cafe actually stays open as usual during these mobile café outings.

In the end, I got a winter-limited brown sugar latte. On this bone-chilling day, the warmth from this cup of coffee felt incredibly comforting.

The white cup lid has a golden pull tab — just lift it to drink. It’s a well-designed blend of aesthetics and functionality.

I also picked up a donut from the fat card next to the Bluebird. It was a coffee-flavored one with gummy bears on top — super cute.

Just like the message conveyed in “The Blue Bird” story, true happiness isn’t something to be sought externally — it’s right there within easy reach, all around us. It’s just that people often forget this simple truth and instead chase after flashy illusions.

So I say: “True happiness is what’s in the palm of your hand, and true flavor is what’s in your mouth.”

The warmth from this cup of coffee in my hand is more than enough to fight off today’s cold wind.

I’ve truly received the warmth passed on from the Bluebird Action Coffee Truck.

When I get the chance, I definitely have to visit the Bluebird Home Cafe in Taoyuan!!!

Though the fat cards are undeniably cute, they don’t have fixed locations. On sunny days, you have to endure the heat, and on bad weather days, wind and rain are unavoidable. Also, while the adorable appearances help, if the products you're selling lack any distinctive appeal, even the cutest truck might struggle to survive in such a competitive market.

The truck’s appearance may be a big advantage, but in the end, it all comes down to the quality of the product and the service itself.

These fat card entrepreneurs have a dedicated online community where you can easily find information about modifications and business tips. If you're interested in starting your own fat card business, it's a good idea to do some research online first, learning from others' experiences before diving in — so you don't pour your passion into a venture that ends up as a total washout.
