Lantern Festival Tour to Penghu – Get a 2014 Limited-Edition Lucky Turtle Plush Toy

Right after the Lunar New Year comes the Lantern Festival, when the festive atmosphere fills the air across Taiwan. In celebration, the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration is hosting the “Most Beautiful Bay’s Wish-Making Lantern Festival Tour to Penghu – Get a Lucky Turtle Plush Toy” event, giving every visitor to Penghu a 2014 edition lucky turtle plush toy.

Director Zhang of the Penghu Administration noted: “The Lantern Festival in Penghu is even livelier than Lunar New Year,” highlighting just how significant the festival is to the locals. The turtle-begging tradition in Penghu is meant to pray for peace; those who successfully throw {J to get a “sacred {J” can take home various types of “turtles,” symbolizing safety at work and good health for the coming year. The following year, they must return an equivalent or greater number of items to pass on the good fortune to others. From traditional paper turtles and red turtle cakes in the past, to today’s glutinous rice turtles, mooncakes, and even the beautifully crafted “lucky turtles,” all these items reflect the evolving cultural elements and communal spirit of the festival, blending ancient traditions with modern creativity.

Non-residents of Penghu who visit the island for tourism between February 12, 2014 (103/2/12) and February 20, 2014 (103/2/20), can exchange their round-trip flight ticket and ID documents at the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration’s Makung Airport Tourist Service Center or the Penghu Visitor Center to receive one 2014 edition lucky turtle plush toy.
