Pink Ocean of Blossoms: Yangmei Xiucai Trail Blanketed in Cherry Blossoms

As cherry blossom season peaks across Taiwan, hundreds of cherry trees along the Xiucai Hiking Trail and the adjacent Xiucai Valley in Yangmei, Taoyuan, have also burst into bloom, creating a "pink sea of flowers." With nearly 90% of the blossoms already open, the vibrant pink blooms contrast beautifully with the surrounding lush green tea plantations, drawing huge crowds of visitors daily who come to admire the scenery and take photos.

The Xiucai Hiking Trail is an emerging hiking spot in Taoyuan. In addition to enjoying the sea of cherry blossoms, visitors can also admire vast fields of white miscanthus flowers and privately owned tea plantations along the trail—both free to explore. The area also features a mountain-loop cycling path. As hikers ascend, reaching the summit offers panoramic views of Yangmei’s cityscape. Many people prefer visiting in the evening to catch the sunset, followed by the illuminated city lights after dark.

The roads along Provincial Highway 7 in Taoyuan’s Fuxing District are also in full bloom with cherry blossoms. Lala Mountain, Little Wulai Scenic Area, Jiaobanshan Park, and Cihu Park currently all have cherry blossoms on display. Locals also revealed a hidden cherry blossom gem in Taoyuan—the Taoyuan General Hospital of the Ministry of National Defense in Longtan, where around 300 cherry trees are in bloom, offering another great spot for flower enthusiasts.

Take Exit Yangmei of National Freeway 1, then follow Provincial Highway 1 toward downtown Yangmei. Turn left onto Xiucai Road, and continue straight—you’ll soon see signs pointing to the “Xiucai Hiking Trail.”
