Thank you, Taiwan！ Japan designs an exclusive mascot “Taiwandā” and theme song

Designed with the shape of Taiwan’s main island as the concept, “Taiwandā” makes people instantly recognize it as the beautiful island of Taiwan！ On the top left of its head, it wears accessories representing Taiwan’s specialties: “bananas,” “coconut trees,” and “Phalaenopsis orchids.” According to the personal profile of “Taiwandā” published on the Taiwan Supporters’ official website, the most charming feature of “Taiwandā” is its short legs representing the Hengchun Peninsula. This adorable design moved many Taiwanese netizens who exclaimed, “Japan is so thoughtful！”

The Taiwan Supporters’ thoughtful design for Taiwan’s mascot doesn’t stop there. To prevent “Taiwandā” from being lonely, they also found two uniquely Taiwanese species to be its good buddies: the purple crow butterfly “るりさん” (Ruri-san), which migrates to southern Taiwan every year for winter, and the endemic Taiwanese bird—the Taiwan blue magpie “ヤマム0?报山娘” (Yamamū-san). Although these two good buddies may not necessarily appear with “Taiwandā” at exhibitions in the future, they might show up in merchandise！
