Keeping an Eye on Asia-Pacific Cruise Trends, Star Cruises Orders a Massive 150,000-Ton Ship

On the 17th, Star Cruises announced the order of another massive cruise ship with a total displacement of 150,000 tons. This marks the group’s second contract signing with German shipyard Meyer Werft within a four-month period. The new vessel is expected to be launched in autumn 2017, bringing Star Cruises’ Asia fleet to a total of nine ships.

The new cruise ship costs €697.2 million and is a sister ship to the one ordered by Star Cruises in October 2013. It is approximately 330 meters long, has 1,682 cabins, a standard passenger capacity of 3,305, and can accommodate up to 4,500 people at maximum.

The second new ship can reach speeds of up to 24 knots, allowing flexible deployment across various route types in the region. It is also specifically designed to cater to the preferences of Asian travelers, enabling Star Cruises to capitalize on the growing cruise tourism market in the Asia-Pacific.
