The Only One in Thailand: A Secluded “Black Sand Beach” Where You Can Enjoy Free Sand Bath SPA

Fine white sand and blue seas under azure skies—that’s the typical image of a beach. But in Trat Province (also translated as Trad Province) in eastern Thailand, there’s a globally rare “Black Sand Beach.” Visitors can use the black sand right on-site to coat their hands and feet, or even enjoy a free sand bath SPA that helps detoxify the body—making it one of the most unique experiences in Thailand.

Black sand beaches are a rare sight around the world, and Thailand’s only one is found in Trat Province—an extraordinary natural wonder. Walking along the wooden boardwalk through century-old mangroves, visitors can first get up close with the local ecology and even try planting water nose fish (a local activity). At the end of the path lies a vast expanse of long, black sandy shore.

Local guides say this black sand beach extends about 2 kilometers in total and was formed from cooled lava emitted by ancient volcanic eruptions. According to locals, the black sand has fatigue-relieving properties. Many residents choose to sit in the shade and wrap their lower bodies thickly in the black sand for about an hour, which helps improve blood circulation and relieve tiredness. This natural, free “black sand SPA” is a special experience you must try when visiting.
