Seasonal Exclusive: Relaxed Stroll Along Brolly Rice Field Boulevard Amid a Carpet of Golden-Yellow Blooms

Just before the Lunar New Year, we visited the rapeseed fields beside Brolly Rice Field Boulevard in Chihshang and witnessed the first-ever hot air balloon launch here. This year, spring arrived early, and some farmlands have already transitioned from rapeseed flowers to paddy fields. It’s likely that after the Lunar New Year, this golden-yellow, carpet-like sea of blooms will turn back into lush green rice paddies. Though we arrived when it was already late and a light drizzle had begun, seeing this vast golden expanse still filled us with excitement… time to take photos.


Brolly Rice Field Boulevard in Chihshang, Taitung, has become a popular attraction thanks to a beverage commercial and hot air balloon promotions. With the rice harvest completed, a large tract of paddy fields was planted with rapeseed flowers. The golden-yellow, carpet-like sea of blooms attracts even more visitors eager to take photos.

Recently, Brolly Rice Field Boulevard swapped its lush green rice fields for a vibrant yellow outfit, creating a picturesque scene. Cycling through this expansive golden sea of flowers is truly a delightful experience.


The golden-yellow rapeseed fields lining both sides of the boulevard were planted by farmers during the rice field fallow period to serve as organic fertilizer. This vast blooming field, shining like a golden carpet, adds a new and dazzling dimension to Brolly Rice Field Boulevard.


The rapeseed fields along Brolly Rice Field Boulevard have now fully bloomed. Even without the sun’s rays, they remain beautifully golden—like a carpet. To witness such a unique sight, you’ll have to visit during this season-exclusive period.


The simple, natural, and beautiful rural scenery of Taitung is no longer just a memory—it can be truly felt. Endless golden rice fields stretch as far as the eye can see, and you can wander through the vast farmland landscapes. There’s always a big tree nearby where you can rest, enjoying the gentle breeze…

Vast stretches of golden-yellow rapeseed flowers resemble golden waves surging from the ocean, spreading out on either side of you. With relaxed steps, only here can you enjoy the most pristine and simple rural scenery.

Under the quite famous Tree of Offering Tea, there is a teapot and a set of teacups. I’ve visited Brolly Rice Field Boulevard several times, and I don’t recall seeing even a single vendor. Although this spot has become very famous, the residents of Chihshang still uphold a simple lifestyle. While enjoying the offered tea, we should also respect the rights of the locals. When sharing in the kindness of the offered tea, please also take care of the beauty of the rice fields, appreciate the hard work of the farmers, and support the “no littering” initiative.

Flat roads with no tall buildings in sight, distant mountains surrounded by clouds—walking along the country roads is actually a very comforting experience…




Early in the morning (January 27th), we arrived at Brolly Rice Field Boulevard around 5:30 AM to wait. This marked the first time Taitung County Government created a new combination of hot air balloons and rapeseed flowers. We were there to personally witness this breathtaking spectacle. The weather was slightly overcast, but we still managed to catch the brilliant scene. We even joined the locals in flying lanterns, sharing the hope and admiration inspired by this incredibly beautiful view.

When everything was ready, the cow-shaped balloon ridden by the county magistrate and his wife took off first. Then, the heart-shaped and rainbow-colored balloons carrying newlyweds slowly ascended, followed by the pumpkin balloon… These five Taiwanese hot air balloons (Taitung Balloon, Heart Balloon, Rainbow Balloon, Cow Balloon, and Pumpkin Balloon) soared above Chihshang’s Tree of Offering Tea during this season-exclusive moment, creating hope and inspiration together with everyone.


This hot air balloon launch site is located on Brolly Rice Field Boulevard in Chihshang. That’s why we specially came to photograph the balloons. With the rapeseed flowers currently in full bloom, the vast yellow sea of blooms is absolutely stunning. The combination of the hot air balloons and the rapeseed fields will present the most dazzling scenery.


The colorful array of hot air balloons combined with the vast golden-yellow rapeseed fields will create one of the most beautiful scenes?


The season-exclusive scene reached its climax with the hot air balloon launch. Onlookers spontaneously picked up their cameras to capture this rare moment.




Four hot air balloons flew over the Tree of Offering Tea one after another. Excited onlookers grabbed their cameras and snapped away at this hopeful and touching scene.



Five hot air balloons took off in full force, slowly rising after being fully inflated. Against the backdrop of the golden-yellow rapeseed sea, they were the most special and eye-catching.


Smiles lit up our faces as we hummed a rustic tune, letting our thoughts drift with the evening breeze. All the loneliness and melancholy faded away with the wind, forgotten along the country road.




The endless golden-yellow sea of flowers, even under overcast and gloomy skies, I believe, is the best time to practice portrait photography. The old lady in front of me is the perfect subject for my practice.





Many people think that overcast days are the worst for portrait photography. Though I’m not sure if that theory holds, I personally believe that the soft, diffused light on thin-cloud overcast days is actually ideal. And the bright yellow rapeseed flowers make the perfect reflector.




Not knowing how to pose the old lady, I let her decide. She went freestyle. I believe natural is beautiful…





When taking portraits, I believe the most important thing is capturing the model's eyes. Only then can the photo avoid looking stiff and unnatural. Exposure considerations, white balance, and color usage come next.




I've taken many portraits, but in the cold wind, the hardest-working was this beautiful grandma. As for whether they look good, well, that’s up to you to decide. My apologies if they hurt your eyes.
