Taiwan’s Only Glass Lantern Festival Gets an Extension Upward! The Hsinchu City Glass Lantern Festival was originally scheduled to end on March 2. Responding to public demand, the exhibition period has been extended to the end of March, allowing more people to experience and appreciate the beauty of glass art. The festival combines creativity, local culture, and folk traditions. Walking along the 388-meter-long “River of Glass,” visitors can view numerous glass-themed artworks.

Hsinchu City held the Glass Lantern Festival to celebrate the Lantern Festival and the 185th anniversary of the founding of Hsinchu City. The 388-meter-long moat has been transformed into Taiwan’s only “River of Glass,” uniquely showcasing many glass artworks that illuminate the areas from Hsinchu Railway Station, Dongmen Roundabout to Hsinchu City Hall.

The artworks include 11 different themed lantern zones such as “Stepping Upward,” “Family Reunion,” “Joyful Lotus Harmony,” and “A Boat Full of Starlight.” Glass was chosen as the creative medium for this lantern festival because glass art is one of Hsinchu’s well-known industries.
