The only one left in Taiwan: Taitung’s Blue Print Hidden in an Alleyway

A well-known street art piece, the Blue Print in Tainan City, was recently whitewashed without warning, drawing many sighs of regret. In fact,there is also a Blue Print in Taitung, hidden behind the Eslite Taitung Story House. This artwork was also created by artist Liu Kuo-Chang,and due to its secluded location, few tourists know about it, making it somewhat of a hidden gem — and it is currently the only remaining Blue Print in Taiwan.

Walking along the Taitung Bicycle Path toward the Taitung Story House, the Blue Print is located behind the Story House, on the site of the former Land Administration Office. On two towering old walls, deep blue pigment serves as the base, with white lines used to draw various creative patterns. Complementing the wall art are three-dimensional tables and chairs that protrude from the building, while outside the courtyard sit painted blue bicycles, sofas, and sewing machines — all contributing to a very relaxing atmosphere.

Unlike in Tainan, the Taitung Blue Print is accompanied by a large expanse of greenery. As the structure is part of an old building, it is also covered with climbing branches and leaves. The combination highlights Taitung’s leisurely and laid-back vibe, and the scene looks different during the day and at night.

In addition to the Eslite Story House and the old railway nearby, the renowned Taitung Iron Flower Village music community is also located here, frequently hosting music and art performances. In recent years, creative markets have also moved in, turning this corner into a gathering spot for the local “hipster” crowd. Currently, there hasn’t been a large influx of tourists, but some say that since the Tainan Blue Print is gone, visitor numbers here may increase. They hope tourists will take care of the only remaining Blue Print.
