As 2017 draws to a close, hotel booking website Hotels.com conducted a special “Dream Destination Survey” among travelers to compile a list of lifetime dream destinations and thrilling experiences. The survey revealed a surprising finding: up to 80% of travelers have a personal travel bucket list, with “seeing the northern lights” topping the chart, followed by “taking a helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon” and “visiting Niagara Falls.”
According to the Hotels.com survey, over half of Taiwanese people dream of traveling around the world to visit famous landmarks and natural wonders. Among these, “seeing the northern lights” ranked highest at 57%. The survey also found that the world’s natural beauty holds great appeal for travelers, with four out of the top five items on the list being natural attractions. In addition to seeing the aurora borealis, these include taking a helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon (38%), visiting Niagara Falls (34%), and diving in the Great Barrier Reef (34%).
The mysterious allure of ancient civilizations and UNESCO World Heritage Sites also feature prominently on many people’s travel lists. Making the top 10 are visiting Machu Picchu (26%) and walking along China’s Great Wall (24%). Iconic landmarks such as paying homage to the Statue of Liberty (34%) and ascending the Eiffel Tower (29%) are highly favored by travelers, while 23% wish to watch a West End or Broadway show.
