Latest 2014 Japan cherry blossom front forecast: Tokyo and Nagoya delayed by 2 to 5 days

Every spring, the most anticipated event in Japan is the cherry blossom season. On February 25, the Japan Meteorological Corporation released its latest prediction for when cherry blossoms will bloom across the country. Compared to the first forecast in early January, the blooming period has been postponed by an average of 2 to 5 days nationwide.

The Japan Meteorological Corporation stated that due to lower temperatures in February, the blooming times of cherry blossoms in many areas have been slightly affected. Fukuoka remains as predicted in the first forecast, with blossoms expected on March 19. Nagoya has been impacted the most, shifting from the original March 20 to March 25 — a delay of 5 days. Osaka has also been postponed by 2 days from the initial prediction of March 25 to March 27. In Tokyo, cherry blossoms are now expected to bloom on March 27, while Sendai remains on schedule as per the previous forecast, blooming on April 10.
