Tourism Center / Comprehensive Report

The mascot of the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, “Taiwan Oh Bear,” has become Taiwan’s first virtual animal civil servant. It will take on the heavy responsibility of being the “Super Task Force Team Leader” at the bureau, collaborating and exchanging with mascots from home and abroad to promote Taiwan’s tourism.

A special new colleague has recently joined the Planning Group at the Tourism Bureau—the mascot “Taiwan Oh Bear.” Due to its outstanding performance, it has received the exceptional privilege of a “promotion” and has been appointed as the “Super Task Force Team Leader.” It even has its own desk and official badge, holding a rank equivalent to Senior Executive Officer Level 11. However... it is unpaid.

As the team leader, “Taiwan Oh Bear” will be responsible for exchanging with domestic and international mascots and promoting Taiwan’s tourism. Its upcoming super task is to collaborate with another mascot “Taiwan Dar,” designed for Taiwan by Japan, to release a comic and LINE stickers. But before that,“Taiwan Dar” will first launch its exclusive LINE stickers in April, initially available in Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia. “Taiwan Oh Bear” is also expected to discuss future collaborations with Japan’s wildly popular Kumamoto mascot, “KUMAMON (くまもん).”

In addition, the Tourism Bureau stated that they are currently creating the “real-life version” of Taiwan Oh Bear, which stands about 170 cm tall and weighs 90 kg—matching the actual size and height of a Formosan black bear. It is expected to be completed by the end of March at the earliest. Moreover, “Taiwan Oh Bear” will have clones. While the original will stay at the Tourism Bureau, 14 other clones will be sent to 12 overseas Tourism Bureau offices and domestic scenic spots to help promote Taiwan’s tourism.
