The Wulai Wisteria Flower Season Begins – 15 Best Spots for Viewing Revealed

As flower seasons continue one after another across Taiwan, the Chiayi Wulai Wisteria Flower Season kicks off today. The rare pinkish-purple wisteria flowers in Taiwan are in full bloom. To promote the beauty of wisteria, the county government has specially invited Japanese actress Makiko Okubo to serve as the spokesperson(Image / Provided by Chiayi County Government), and has listed 15 of the best spots for flower viewing. The Cultural Affairs and Tourism Bureau stated that the wisteria blooming period is not long, lasting only until the end of March, so the public is advised to plan their trips early.

The tourism bureau noted that Wulai Village is located in Meishan Township and is an important tourist attraction along the northern route of Alishan. With an altitude of about 1,000 meters, the area boasts a pristine and unpolluted environment, making it suitable for wisteria growth. Wisteria was introduced from Japan in 1930, and every March since then, clusters of wisteria flowers hang in the air like wind chimes, swaying gently in the breeze — a truly breathtaking sight.

The tourism bureau reminds visitors that starting from around the 60-kilometer mark along Provincial Highway 166, wisteria blooms can be enjoyed along the entire route. There are also restaurants and homestays nearby, as well as schools and rest stops along the way. Flower-viewing tourists are advised to book in advance.
