Indonesia AirAsia becomes new SkyTeam member, launches Jakarta-London route in May

Indonesia AirAsia announced on March 5 that it has become the 20th member of SkyTeam and the alliance's second Southeast Asian airline. With its addition, Jakarta becomes another gateway to Southeast Asia within SkyTeam, adding 40 new destinations to the alliance's network.

SkyTeam Managing Director Michael Wisbrun stated that with Indonesia AirAsia joining, the alliance can connect travelers to 1,064 destinations and also contribute to the development of the Asia-Pacific region.

Indonesia AirAsia President and CEO Emirsyah Satar said he hopes the alliance’s network can connect Indonesia through its hubs in Jakarta, Denpasar, Makassar, Medan, Surabaya, and Balikpapan.

Indonesia AirAsia stated that its current route network covers 64 destinations across 12 countries and regions, including 40 domestic destinations. It also operates flights to Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, as well as Japan's Narita and Haneda airports, and will launch a new Jakarta-Gatwick Airport route in May this year.

With its membership in SkyTeam, Indonesia AirAsia has implemented various alliance-established standards, including services such as SkyPriority. Starting now, Indonesia AirAsia’s 19 million passengers can also earn and redeem miles when flying with any SkyTeam member airline. Frequent flyer members of other SkyTeam airlines can also earn and redeem miles when flying with Indonesia AirAsia.
