Spring flower seasons kick off one after another, and Yilan’s pomelo blossoms, which only bloom for two weeks, are about to enter their peak season!“Flowers Mirror Dongshan – Find Happiness in Pomelos” spring event will kick off this Saturday, the 15th. On the day of the event, there will be a “pomelo tree in a wedding dress” activity, a pomelo blossom tea session, as well as DIY experiences such as pomelo dorayaki, pomelo-scented green tea cake, and pomelo blossom handmade soap. The event also calls on the public and businesses to jointly adopt pomelo trees.

Dongshan Township has long been the main production area of pomelos in Yilan County. Thanks to the pleasant climate of the Lanyang Plain, the pomelos produced here have delicate flesh, are juicy and sweet, making them a hot commodity in the market. March and April are the peak blooming periods for pomelo flowers, with a two-week window for flower viewing. Although the blooming period is short, when in full bloom, the trees are covered with small white flowers, attracting many tourists and photography enthusiasts to come and admire the scenery. To help more people appreciate the beauty of Yilan’s pomelo blossoms, in addition to a series of exciting activities on March 15, the public can also join a one-day tour for just NT$750 to enjoy the pomelo and tung blossoms, as well as taste a carefully prepared local pomelo wellness lunch box. Visitors can also try their hand at DIY pomelo green tea cakes on-site and experience the joy of making them themselves.

To allow more people to get close to Yilan’s unpolluted rural charm, special group discounts for corporate bookings are being offered. The original price of NT$1,099 per person has been discounted by NT$200 to just NT$899, and companies can also adopt pomelo trees in the name of their business, contributing to Taiwan’s local agriculture. In addition, for travelers who want to take a leisurely trip around Yilan, a two-day tour package is also available, with a minimum price of NT$3,400 for a two-day-one-night itinerary.

Huang Zhiyao, General Manager of Yilan County Dongshan Township Farmers’ Association, said that Yilan pomelos absorb the nutrients of the Lanyang Plain, resulting in delicate flavor, juiciness, and sweetness. They are cultivated using either safe pesticide application or organic certification methods, not only reducing pollution to the natural environment but also maintaining ecological balance.“For just NT$4,000, you can adopt a pomelo tree that is managed under safe pesticide practices. By this autumn’s harvest, an average pomelo tree can yield 100 to 130 pomelos. For adopters, whether for corporate gifting or donating to charitable organizations, it’s a wonderful way to make use of it.” Adopting a pomelo tree greatly benefits local farmers and agricultural product development, whether in terms of sales assurance or agricultural development. The association looks forward to more businesses and individuals joining the pomelo tree adoption campaign.

The “Flowers Mirror Dongshan – Find Happiness in Pomelos” spring event runs from March 15 to March 23. On the closing day, March 23, a bicycle ride around the park will also be held. For just NT$500 per person, participants can ride bicycles to enjoy the scenic beauty of the park and take part in food-and-agriculture experiences. Not only can they taste local dishes featuring pomelo flavors, but they can also join DIY experiences with pomelo products. The event is limited to 150 participants.
