He spent 40 years of his life collecting to create Thailand’s most “old-school” nostalgic museum

There are many distinctive theme museums around the world. When it comes to the most memorable museums in Thailand, this “Nostalgia Museum” located in the eastern city of Rayong is definitely on the list. Out of interest, the museum owner spent over 40 years of his life collecting all kinds of old-fashioned items, such as vintage BMW motorcycles, a whole wall of construction tools, uniquely shaped piggy banks, kitchenware, banknotes and lottery tickets, and so on. These items are categorized by different themes, totaling thousands of astonishing collectibles, which even earned praise from Thai government officials during their visits.

This nostalgia museum is actually named “KruKung Museum,” which literally translates to Teacher Kung’s Museum, named after the museum owner’s surname and profession. Teacher Kung is now over 60 years old but still full of energy, and he can effortlessly tell a story about each collectible item.

Teacher Kung said that out of interest, he started collecting these old items from the age of 18, sourcing them from markets and friends and family. Thus began his collection journey spanning over 40 years, and every item in his collection is a treasure to him.

The museum is a two-story building, with different areas divided by theme. Near the entrance, there are old horse-drawn carriages and cars, etc. In one corner of the first floor, there’s a large standing fan the size of a person, which still works today. There’s also a retro-style barbershop, a photo studio filled with cameras from various eras, and old-style street food stalls. Further inside, there are film projectors from the 1940s and 50s. Teacher Kung has even recreated the look of an old cinema, including the ticket booth and movie seating area, all of which can be seen here.
