China Airlines won the award primarily for integrating eco-friendly concepts into both ground and in-flight service processes through its "ECO services," as well as for fostering cross-industry collaborations that introduced an innovative environmental approach combining elements of "culture, technology, sustainability, inspiration, and trust." Additionally, the airline’s first fleet of eco-efficient Boeing B777-300ER aircraft will gradually enter service this year, and starting in 2016, the Airbus A350 will be introduced. Both aircraft types not only increase passenger capacity but also offer significantly better fuel efficiency and carbon reduction—achieving over 20% in emissions savings—for greater environmental benefits.
Furthermore, China Airlines is the first airline in Taiwan and the second in the world to integrate its environmental management system with both the ISO14001 and ISO50001 standards, earning certification from the British Standards Institution. This positions the airline as a leader in aligning Taiwan’s aviation industry with international environmental management practices. Through thoughtful and considerate service, China Airlines aims to promote energy-saving and carbon-reduction concepts to travelers worldwide, guiding Taiwan’s aviation and service industries toward a new era of sustainable environmental stewardship.
Sustainability is one of the core values of China Airlines’ corporate culture. The airline has pioneered numerous environmentally friendly initiatives in Taiwan’s aviation and transportation sectors, earning widespread recognition: it was awarded the Environmental Protection Administration’s 22nd Corporate Environmental Protection Award and the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Green Model Award in 2013; it received the EPA’s “Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction Action Label” Excellence Award and then Special Excellence Award in 2011 and 2012 respectively; it was honored with the Super Green Jury Award and the Transportation Category First Prize in the Digital Times magazine’s “Green Brand Survey” in 2013 and 2012; in 2013, it was given the inaugural “Green Sustainability Award” at the Taipei Himalayan Association’s “Million Trees” campaign, as well as the “Outstanding Low-Carbon Eco-Friendly Airline” brand award under the “Hong Kong Business Leaders Awards.” These achievements reflect the tangible results of China Airlines’ environmental management efforts.
The Asian Productivity Organization (APO) established the Green Productivity (GP) initiative in 1994, which includes the International Green Product Exhibition (EPIF) to promote the consumption and procurement of green products and services. The EPIF is Asia’s largest, longest-running, and most representative green exhibition. This year marks its first time being held in Taiwan. From the 13th to the 16th, China Airlines is exhibiting at Booth A in Hall 1 of the Taipei World Trade Center, where visitors can experience China Airlines’ commitment to sustainable environmental protection and real actions for Earth care through online services, airport services, lounge amenities, and eco-efficient in-flight experiences featured in the showcase.
