Aowanda Enters “Firefly Season” – Tiny Glowing Lights Like a Vast Starry Sky

The Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area, known for its beautiful natural scenery throughout the four seasons, will enter firefly season starting in April. The Aowanda Nature Education Center has specially planned a firefly-watching activity called “Mabo’s Little Journey – Overnight Firefly Watching.” There will be five sessions in total during April and May. Over the course of a two-day, one-night trip, participants will enjoy the sight of countless glowing lights descending upon the forest like a starry sky at night.

Fireflies have long been known as an “indicator insect for environmental quality,” as their presence indicates that the area is free from pollution. The Aowanda area boasts clean water resources and diverse, well-preserved forest vegetation, making it an ideal habitat for fireflies to live and reproduce. As a result, the Aowanda Forest Recreation Area was ranked first among “Taiwan’s Top Ten Firefly-Watching Spots” last year.

The firefly-watching season activities begin on April 25 and are divided into five sessions: “4/25–4/26, 4/26–4/27, 5/2–5/3, 5/3–5/4, and 5/9–5/10.” For detailed activity information, please visitthe Aowanda Nature Education Center websitefor more details.
