Kaohsiung Circular Light Rail – Experience the Beauty of Southern Taiwan from a New Perspective

The circular light rail system currently under construction in Kaohsiung recentlyfan pageunveiled interior and exterior design images. The Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation (KRTC), which has secured the operating rights for the first phase, stated that each train can accommodate 250 passengers and is expected to begin service in October 2015. The 14 stations in the first phase will connect with KRTC’s Kaixuan Station and Xiziwan Station, linking major city landmarks and attractions through various public transportation systems, making travel more convenient for both domestic and international visitors to Kaohsiung.

Whether in nearby Japan or as far as Europe, many people who travel abroad have likely experienced riding a light rail train — a unique feeling and perspective different from taking a subway or even a bus. In the future, you won’t need to go abroad to enjoy the fun of riding a light rail — you can do it right here in Taiwan.

According tothe Kaohsiung City Government’s Department of Rapid Transit Systems,once the two-phase construction of the light rail is completed and fully operational, it will form a circular network connecting northern and southern Kaohsiung. It will also link up with six transfer stations: KRTC’s Kaixuan Station, Aozihdi Station, Xiziwan Station, Taiwan Railways’ Science and Technology Museum Station, Gushan Station, and the National Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts Station. With the introduction of the light rail, Kaohsiung will become the first city in Taiwan to have four types of railway systems (high-speed rail, Taiwan Railways, metro, and light rail).
