No smoking or pets allowed on Shoushan Mountain starting April—violators face fines up to NT$3,000!

No pets allowed either！Kaohsiung’s Shoushan National Nature Park is a beloved leisure spot for many, but new regulations are now in place for visitors. The Shoushan National Nature Park Preparatory Office announced that starting April 1, smoking and bringing pets into the park will be prohibited, with violators facing maximum fines of NT$3,000.

The preparatory office stated that in line with the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s policy banning smoking in national parks, national nature parks, and other park green spaces, a no-smoking rule within the park was added and announced at the end of 2013. Starting April, anyone caught smoking in the park will be immediately reported and fined.

Recently, the preparatory office has also introduced a new ban on bringing pets into controlled and specially designated scenic areas, including the Shoushan and Banpingshan regions. The office explained that wild animals such as Formosan macaques and Formosan serows in the mountainous areas may carry rabies, and to prevent cross-infection between pets and wildlife, the pet ban has been established. Violators will also face maximum fines of NT$3,000 under the National Park Act.
