Travel Center / Comprehensive Report
Attention all Shiba Inu fans—not just Shiba Inu floating coffee or Shiba Inu mochi, here comes another super cute Shiba Inu-themed food item. A new Japanese restaurant has recently popped up in Taichung’s Zhongzheng First Senior High School Commercial Area, and with skills rivaling those of a Japanese mom, they’ve crafted onigiri shaped like Shiba Inu faces.

Located on Yizhong Street, “Komachi Hiyori” was formerly known as Little Prince Fairy Tale Kitchen. It previously served Italian-style grilled dishes, pasta, curry rice, and Korean hot pot. Now, after renaming and redecorating, it offers a more Japanese-style, traditional ambiance. The most popular item on Instagram is the daily limited-edition “Shiba Inu Fried Chicken Onigiri Set Meal,” available in 20 portions per day at NT$220, which includes the main dish, a drink, cream soup, focaccia bread, and dessert.

The Shiba Inu onigiri’s facial features are crafted using seaweed, giving it an extremely adorable and dopey look that’s hard for Shiba Inu fans to resist. Next to it is a white cat onigiri, served with side dishes such as fried chicken, fries, and a hot spring egg—roughly the perfect portion for the average girl.

The sumo pot series is also a must-order favorite at the shop. Using a Korean UFO pot, the outer ring is loaded with cheese and chicken, while the inner pot contains tofu, beef or pork, and vegetables. It lets you enjoy both hot pot and cheesy meat-dipping in one go. Prices start at NT$398 for a two-person portion, depending on the type of meat or broth.

After the savory dishes, move on to something sweet. When it comes to Japanese desserts, you can’t miss the adorable grilled mochi balls. A skewer of three hanami dango can be enjoyed with black sugar syrup, condensed milk, peanut candy powder, or red bean paste. They have a rich glutinous rice flavor, and the four sauces help prevent flavor fatigue.

If you’re a Shiba Inu fan, make sure to visit this spot next time you’re in Taichung. But with only 20 portions available per day, it’s best to get there early or you might miss out.
