Since its launch, the “1600 Pandas World Tour – Taipei” public art exhibition has been extremely popular, attracting over 2.5 million visitors. On the final weekend of the exhibition, the organizers specially adorned paper Taiwanese black bears with medals from international sporting events, allowing the bears to recreate the proud moments of young Taiwanese athletes on the global sports stage.

▲The paper pandas also formed a “V” shape, symbolizing “victory.”

The organizing body, the Department of Information and Tourism, stated that young Taiwanese athletes have achieved outstanding results in numerous international competitions in recent years. The white V-shaped fur on the chests of the Taiwanese black bears also resembles the letter “V,” which stands for “victory,” making it a fitting tribute. As such, this time the black bears are adorned with medals won by Taiwanese athletes in competitions around the world. These includethe gold medal in women’s tug-of-war at the 2013 World Games by Jingmei Girls’ High School, the gold medal won by Wanfang High School at the 2009 International Children’s Games, as well as the championship won by Dongyuan Elementary School at the 2001 Little League World Series in Mexico, and the gold medal in skating at the 2013 Winter Special Olympics—all of which allow the Taiwanese black bears to cheer and applaud for the Taiwanese athletes.
