Dance with Fireflies！The Alishan Firefly Season Begins in April

As the weather warms up, fireflies—commonly known as “fire gold aunts”—begin to appear. Starting in April, the Alishan National Scenic Area Administration will hold four firefly-watching sessions. Led by experts, participants will venture into areas where fireflies gather to enjoy their glow at night. In addition, the mascot “Fire Brother” has been introduced as the event ambassador to give visitors a deeper experience of Alishan’s beautiful fireflies.

The “Glow-in-the-Dark Trail and Firefly-Watching Tour” consists of four sessions on April 19, 26 and May 3, 10. The activities will take participants to firefly hotspots such as Guanghua Top Benzi Recreation Area, Yuantan Ecological Park, Fengshan, and Rui Li, as well as other scenic spots including Youth Ridge Trail, Wild Ginger Flower Trail, Fengshan Observation Deck, and Yaums Trail.

The administration stated that this year, in collaboration with the Alishan Forest Railway and local homestay operators, package tours have been planned. Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation, and with the railway now running again all the way to Fenchihu, nearby attractions can also be explored. All four firefly-watching sessions fall on Saturdays, and the first 100 registrants for each session will receive an exclusive event souvenir.
