As the saying goes, food knows no borders, and in Taiwan, you can find cuisines from all over the world. Among them, Korean food has been especially popular and trendy in recent years. Even just a hint of “Korean style” can instantly go viral on Instagram.
This “Nuna Fried Chicken ??Wu Xie” has also become a super popular check-in spot on Instagram recently. #TaichungFood #FengjiaFood Because the owner of this shop is Korean, many online commenters have pointed out that she basically brought an entire Korean fried chicken shop to Taiwan. The stylish and modern vibe inside and outside the store, with the seating area right at the entrance, has already become an iconic feature of “Nuna Fried Chicken ??Wu Xie.” Just search on Instagram, and you’ll see what we mean XDXD.

In the bustling food battlefield that is Fengjia Night Market, “Nuna Fried Chicken ??Wu Xie” offers a very different atmosphere. It’s not the kind of place where you eat while walking around. Tucked away in a lane on Qinghe Street, it’s somewhat hidden but still easy to find. Once you sit down, you’re greeted with a cozy, slightly tipsy vibe :) The lighting is moody and atmospheric, and the space may look simple, but it gives off a very relaxing feeling. Colorful tubes are adorned with Korean characters and rooster motifs, making it immediately clear what kind of food is served here.

On a happy Friday, the three of us decided to visit several “Fengjia Food” spots from our list. The first stop was “Nuna Fried Chicken ??Wu Xie.” When we heard we’d be having Korean fried chicken, our little high schooler was absolutely thrilled. She’s a huge K-pop fan, after all XD. Looking at the menu overhead and flipping through what might’ve been handed to us by an “oppa,” we ordered some of our usual favorites and shared them as a group.

My friend and I, being fans of rice balls, didn’t hesitate for a second when we saw “Nuna Fried Chicken ??Wu Xie” had fist rice balls. XD On the iron plate, there were six rice balls, each hand-molded into a fist shape—just enough for the three of us to have two each. The chewy rice was wrapped with seaweed and white sesame, warm and delicious. It reminded us of the warmth of a rice ball our moms used to make in the morning. Simple, yet so comforting :)

How could we come to “Nuna Fried Chicken ??Wu Xie” without trying Korean fried chicken made by a Korean?! ^______________^ /// From their social media, you can see that they use locally sourced Taiwanese chicken along with “Korean sauces flown in from Korea,” plus the authentic cooking style of the Korean owner. It’s truly a concept of bringing the taste of Korea to Taiwan!! It reminded us of when we went to Seoul a few years ago, and we went out late at night just to find Korean fried chicken.
At “Nuna Fried Chicken ??Wu Xie,” the fried chicken comes in two types: “bone-in” and “boneless.” The bone-in ones are cheaper, and we happen to love the experience of chewing on bones. So we went with the red sauce bone-in Korean fried chicken. It’s always nice to share with a group. In the past, I probably would’ve eaten seven or eight out of ten pieces myself because my friends would only have one or two (no wonder I’ve grown sideways = =). The flavor of the authentic red sauce is truly unforgettable—slightly spicy, slightly sweet, coating every piece of crispy fried chicken. One bite into the crunchy exterior and that addictive sauce, and it’s simply irresistible. Guilty pleasure, but totally worth it XD.

Seeing the keywords “stir-fried rice cake” and “instant noodles,” my friend and I were immediately sold (it’s great when your food tastes align XD). Korea has so many dishes like this—spicy stir-fried rice cakes with instant noodles and cheese. Served hot and fresh, the cheese stretches when you pull it. It always makes me wonder how Koreans stay so slim and tall despite eating such high-calorie, indulgent food. (Off-topic again)

After eating until we were about six or seven-tenths full, we decided to head to the next check-in spot. On our way out, we met an adorable Maltese at the entrance, with its owner sitting just to the left of the frame. It unintentionally became the perfect ending to our visit to “Nuna Fried Chicken ??Wu Xie.” Others might be taking photos to look Insta-worthy, but I’ve got a cute little dog as the star of my shot XD. The lively atmosphere inside the shop contrasted hilariously with the adorable pup outside. I think I’ll remember this moment forever!!!
