Joint Venture Between Evergreen and GE to Establish Maintenance Center

GE Aviation, a global leader in aircraft engines, and Evergreen Aerospace have announced a joint venture to establish a new company in Taiwan dedicated to overhauling the GEnx engine — the fastest-selling engine in GE Aviation’s history. The newly formed EVA Aero Engine Maintenance Co., Ltd. will build on the strong partnership between GE Aviation and Evergreen over the past 15 years.

Chang Kuo-wei, Chairman of EVA Air, said: “EVA Air and GE Aviation established Evergreen Aerospace through a joint venture in 1998. Over the years, we have developed a very good cooperative relationship, and Evergreen Aerospace has become a well-known maintenance facility for both airframes and engines. This new company, formed by Evergreen Aerospace and GE Aviation to provide maintenance services for the next-generation GEnx engines, not only strengthens the partnership between our two companies but also ensures that we can deliver even higher-quality service to our customers.”

GE Aviation will provide relevant GEnx maintenance training and tooling equipment later this year, with plans to begin offering partial GEnx services in 2015 and achieve full overhaul capability by 2019.

The GEnx series engines are the fastest-selling engines in GE Aviation’s history, with cumulative orders exceeding 1,500 units to date. The series entered service in 2011 and is installed on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Boeing 747-8. Over the past two years, GEnx engine production capacity has continued to increase, and nearly 300 units are expected to be delivered in 2014.
