The uninhabited islet "Houti Zi Yu" boasts rich bird ecology, making it a favorite subject for photography enthusiasts

The Penghu National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications is promoting the natural ecological resources of Wang'an. They specially invited local photography enthusiast—Mr. Chen Hongxian, principal of Wang'an Elementary School, to provide photographic works for display on the second floor of the Green Sea Turtle Conservation and Tourism Center, offering free viewing for visitors.

Houti Zi Yu is located about 300 meters south of Jiangjun Yu in Wang'an Township, belonging to Jiangjun Village in Wang'an Township, with an area of approximately 2.79 hectares—about the size of four soccer fields. It is an uninhabited small islet, generally difficult for tourists to reach. The islet is composed of columnar, tabular, and porous basalt, forming a typical mesa terrain with a highest point of about 10 meters. The terrain is flat with overgrown weeds, and there is a small sandy beach on the northern wave-cut platform where terns often come to bathe. Although small in size, Houti Zi Yu boasts diverse bird ecology, with nine bird species breeding on the islet: skylark, swallow, eastern collared pratincole, rock pigeon, little tern, red-winged tern, sooty tern, bridled tern, and crested tern, making its bird ecology quite rich. Chen Hongxian often spends his leisure time observing wild bird ecology and engaging in wild bird photography. His photographic works have been entered in various photography competitions over the years, achieving excellent results.

This exhibition runs from April 1, 2014, to October 31, 2014, at the Wang'an Green Sea Turtle Conservation and Tourism Center. It aims to convey the depth of Wang'an’s natural wild bird ecology through the eyes of the photographer, allowing residents and visitors to gain a deeper understanding of Wang'an Township and further experience the area. Visitors who take photos during their visit, post them on social media, and upload them to the Penghu National Scenic Area’s Facebook fan page “菊岛欢乐游” will receive a postcard featuring selected photographic works by the author.
