Yacht Dreams Come True: Free Boarding Experiences at North, Central, and South Carnival Events

Is enjoying a day out on a yacht with friends, chatting and admiring the waves and coastal scenery, really only for the rich?

Starting %April 12, yacht carnival events will be held in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, inviting the public to come aboard.

To help the public get a closer look at yachting activities, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Maritime and Port Bureau and the Tourism Bureauorganized a series of yacht carnival events on April 12, April 26, and May 3 in Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf, Pingtung Dapeng Bay, and Taichung Wuchi Fishing Portand invited various yacht and sailing associations, clubs, and industry players to participate. These events not only showcase the approachable side of yachting but also give the public the opportunity to board a yacht, feel the thrill of speed, and enjoy the fun of yachting tourism.

Maritime and Port Bureau Director Qi Wen-zhong stated at the opening ceremony that Taiwan has abundant marine resources, and with increasingly comprehensive regulations and a well-developed yachting tourism framework, the goal of the yacht carnival events is to bring the public closer to the ocean and show that yachting is no longer an exclusive pastime for the wealthy.

Common yachting activities in Taiwan include sailing out to sea, water skiing, fishing, and island-hopping. Yacht clubs also offer customized experiences such as sea parties and birthday celebrations. According to industry insiders,with an average starting cost of NT$800–1,500 per person,you can enjoy a popular Keelung River yacht cruise and experience a different kind of travel adventure—something definitely not limited to the wealthy.

Organizers also noted that since the public generally has few opportunities to connect with yacht operators or clubs, they hope these three yacht carnival events will serve as a platform for people in northern, central, and southern Taiwan to learn more about yachting tourism. Each carnival will also allow 100 members of the public to board a yacht, helping to promote the yachting trend.
