World’s Best Airport 2014: Singapore Changi Airport Wins Again, Taiwan Ranks 10th in Asia

The UK-based independent aviation survey organization that annually releases the world’s best international airport rankings based on global traveler votes“Skytrax”announced the “2014 World’s Top 10 Airports” at the end of March. Singapore Changi International Airport once again claimed the top spot, while Hong Kong International Airport, which has won first place eight times before, narrowly missed out this year and remained in 4th place.

The list of airports in the “2014 World’s Top 10 Airports” is largely similar to the 2013 rankings, with only slight changes after the third position. The first and second places were retained by Singapore Changi International Airport and South Korea’s Incheon International Airport, respectively, while Germany’s Munich Airport made it into the top three this year.

Changi International Airport, which was named the “Best Airport to Sleep in Asia” in late 2013, has added another accolade to its list of honors. Skytrax pointed out that Changi Airport, which handles over 40 million passengers annually, not only transports travelers around the world but also serves as a large relaxation space that helps alleviate the fatigue and stress of travel.

The airport offers a variety of facilities including spas, cinemas, showers, and an outdoor swimming pool. Whether you want to engage in outdoor or indoor activities, there's something for everyone. There’s also a four-story slide located in Terminal 3, allowing visitors to experience the thrill of sliding quickly from the first floor to the basement level two, making many tourists say they wouldn’t get bored even if they had to wait here for several hours.

If Changi International Airport is a space for relaxation and leisure, then South Korea’s Incheon Airport, ranked second, is like a large museum that showcases Korean culture in full splendor. Skytrax stated that although Incheon Airport has not been in operation for long, its environment is not only clean and beautiful in appearance, but the rest areas are also comfortable. At the same time, the food court offers a variety of authentic Korean dishes, which is why Skytrax also gave it the highest score of five stars.

Germany’s Munich Airport, which ranked 3rd this year, is the second busiest airport in Germany. Its architecture features transparent glass used in many walls and ceilings, making the entire airport appear more spacious and bright. The expansive sense of space also allows travelers to relax appropriately here.

Although Taiwan did not make it into the top 10 global best airports this year, Taoyuan Chiang Kai-shek International Airport still earned honors such as 10th place for “Best Airport in Asia,” 9th place for “Best Airport for Transits Worldwide,” and 6th place for “Best Airport for Service Worldwide.”
