The “Yilan Fashion Day” promotes urban aesthetics

“Urban aesthetics is about living in the moment!” Following the highly successful first Yilan Fashion Day lecture in March, the second session was held on April 5 at the Luodong Cultural Factory. This lecture, led by fashion designer Hsu Yan-ling, continued the theme of urban aesthetics, emphasizing that an aesthetic lifestyle means living in the present — only by being curious about life can one truly appreciate its rarity.

Lin Chiu-fang, Director of Yilan County Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, said that the purpose of hosting Yilan Fashion Day is to promote the idea that “life is fashion.” With a positive attitude and careful appreciation of the beauty in everyday life, one can enhance their aesthetic sensitivity and thereby embrace an aesthetic lifestyle.

Although this lecture continued the theme of Parisian urban aesthetics from the previous session, Hsu Yan-ling approached it from the perspective of “life is rare, live in the moment,” stressing that having a curious and free-spirited heart, treasuring oneself and cherishing others, is the core of urban life aesthetics.

Despite the lecture taking place on Tomb Sweeping Day, it still attracted many participants. During the event, Hsu Yan-ling guided the audience through the life, architecture, people, and art of Paris via French chanson music, helping them deeply understand that urban aesthetics is about “valuing the present self, rather than indulging in the past.” Only by recognizing the beauty of living in the moment can one perceive the diverse beauty in life. During the Q&A session afterward, many participants were curious about the differences between life in France and Taiwan. Hsu Yan-ling noted that Taiwan has a more diverse blend of cultures, which even gives Taiwanese people a higher level of inclusiveness than the French — a unique form of “urban aesthetics” in Taiwan.

Yilan Fashion Day is a series of lecture events organized by the Yilan County Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, held on the first Saturday of each month. The May 3 (Saturday) lecture will be given by fashion designer Lin Kuo-chi, who is active in the television industry. In addition to targeting the general public, this lecture also offers continuing education credits, encouraging participation from public sector employees to become seeds of urban aesthetics.
