"Frame Shadows Café" is located on the second floor of Zhuangjing Road and isn't very easy to find. Five years ago, when Owner Wang first opened the shop, the area was still undeveloped, with few businesses around, which often left him with “not a single customer all day.” But he seized the opportunity to continuously refine his food and drink offerings. Now, the café has finally won over nearby office workers and residents, who frequently come to dine here. There are even many international travelers who find their way here. “They told me that our café was their first stop after landing,” he admitted, finding it all quite unbelievable.

"Frame Shadows Café" is often labeled as an adorable-themed café or a hipster hangout. With its resident long-haired Scottish Fold cat "Chuntao," it's widely regarded as a pet-friendly eatery (or even a cat café). On weekdays, the seating area has no time limit, but during weekends, it's divided into two zones: a power outlet zone and a dining zone. The dining zone enforces a two-hour time limit on weekends, whereas the power outlet area remains unrestricted.

The café serves coffee and milk au lait. Aside from Americano, any hot beverage can be made with 3D latte art. Here are three featured flavors: matcha au lait, latte, and chocolate au lait. The matcha is made with high-quality Shizuoka green tea, lightly sweetened to balance bitterness and deliver a richer taste. Owner Wang said, “Many customers say this matcha rivals that of specialty shops.” The coffee takes a traditional European approach—slightly cooler in temperature so it’s not too hot, served in smaller cups to give an authentic European coffee experience. The chocolate is made from high-concentration (100%) cocoa powder, with options to adjust bitterness and sweetness to your liking.

Chocolate Marble Cake
A signature handmade non-baked chilled cake developed by the shop itself, it has been a bestseller since opening. It uses premium Normandy cream from France and high-cocoa dark chocolate.

Spicy Braised Beef Brisket Rice
This dish carries a "mom’s cooking" vibe. When Owner Wang first started the café, he wanted to include rice-based meals. “I went back and asked my mom. She asked me what I liked best, and I listed a few dishes for her.” One of them was this braised beef brisket. The shop avoids using pre-packaged seasonings and frozen vegetables, instead sourcing fresh produce directly from suppliers. Meals are prepared in the small kitchen space, and the rice comes from Guanshan new-crop varieties.

Topped with ice cream, fresh cream, and fruits, it also uses Normandy cream. The pancake itself is delightfully chewy, somewhat mochi-like. One highlight is that it’s not overly sweet, making it a great match for a variety of drinks. Another unique touch is the use of imported meringue powder for the meringue topping, chosen to provide the most comfortable temperature for customers.
