The Penghu International Marine Fireworks Festival kicked off in grand style tonight (14th), with the opening ceremony fireworks display lasting 20 minutes and dazzling 40,000 on-site spectators. Among them were two 3D-effect fireworks that hovered in the sky for about 10 seconds, leaving the crowd to exclaim, “Absolutely stunning!”

Cai Youzhong, deputy director of the Tourism Department of Penghu County Government, said that this year’s fireworks launch tubes were 12 tons in size, and the number of fireworks launched was double that of previous years. The downtown area of Magong began filling with visitors early today, all eager to see the evening’s 9 PM fireworks show. Cai also noted that an estimated 40,000 people were on-site waiting for the fireworks to begin. Although strong winds were blowing across Penghu tonight, organizers were initially concerned that the wind might affect the display and shorten the duration of the fireworks’ suspension in the air. However, once the opening ceremony commenced, a spectacular 20-minute grand fireworks show ensued, featuring rapid-fire sounds like machine gun bursts from smaller fireworks, familiar designs such as smiley faces and hearts, and even two “3D visual” fireworks that hovered in the air for as long as 10 seconds — truly beautiful, officially heralding the start of the two-month-long Penghu International Marine Fireworks Festival in all its glory.

This year, Penghu County Government has themed the event as “Bloom Freely, Let the World Shine for Me,” and has invited international fireworks teams to participate. In the coming weeks, teams from mainland China, Finland, and Brazil will create context-themed fireworks displays, such as legendary tales, Nordic vibes, and Latin American styles — showcasing the international caliber of the fireworks festival.
※ The fireworks festival runs from the 14th to June 19th, with fireworks shows every Monday and Thursday evening from 21:00 to 21:15 at Guanyin Pavilion Recreation Area, spanning a period of two months.
