The burst filling pastry proves a hit – Qingguang Red Bean Pastry

Wu De’en majored in information processing in high school and worked as an auto mechanic right after military service. After returning to civilian life, he learned on the job, constantly exploring his career path. Discovering his passion for cooking, he crossed over to work backstage at a Japanese restaurant and later took over a juice shop from a relative. In 2003, he made a name for himself with 10-dollar burst-filling red bean pastries, now operating nearly 10 stores in Taipei and New Taipei.

To Wu De’en, owner of Qingguang Red Bean Pastry, there’s no secret to making great pastries, running a store or picking the right location. “As long as you use real, quality ingredients, the food will naturally taste good.”

At the flagship Qingguang Red Bean Pastry store in Taipei’s Qingguang Market, the doors had just opened at 11 a.m., and while staff were busy making pastries in the sweltering heat, a long queue had already formed outside. “I’ll take 20 red bean ones.” “I want 50, cream and red bean, both packed separately.” The 10-dollar burst-filling red bean pastry is an absolute crowd favorite.
