New bike lane hidden under tree shade in Taipei connects Songshan and Neihu cycling routes

Cycling for tourism or exercise has become quite popular in Taiwan in recent years, and more and more bike lanes dedicated to cyclists have been built across cities and counties. The Taipei City Traffic Engineering Office recently completed a new 1-kilometer-long bike lane on Section 6, Nanjing East Road. In the future, the public will be able to use this new lane to reach attractions such as riverside parks and Raohe Night Market.

According to the Taipei City Traffic Engineering Office, the new bike lane is well-connected. To the east, it links up with Mingmei Park in Phase 5 of Neihu and directly connects to the bike lane within Green Space No. 119 in Neihu. To the west, it leads to Tanmei Street, and by following the shared pedestrian-bike path alongside it, you can reach Rainbow Bridge. By crossing the river via the Mai Shuai 1st Bridge to Section 5, Nanjing East Road, you can access the Nanjing West Road bike lane, which is set to open by the end of this year. This not only connects the cycling networks of Songshan and Neihu but also serves as a new leisure destination for the public.

It’s worth mentioning that the 1-kilometer-long bike lane on Section 6, Nanjing East Road is divided into both separated and shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists. Along the way, there is also a full stretch of green-shaded tree cover, which not only reduces interference from motor vehicles but also provides pleasant shade during hot weather, making for a very comfortable ride.
