Watch a "river of fireflies" scatter across fields of calla lilies — Zhuzihu holds its first free firefly-watching tour

In addition to its vast, picturesque fields of calla lilies, Zhuzihu in Yangmingshan now boasts clear water quality thanks to restoration efforts, creating a diverse ecological environment. This year, the Taipei City Soil and Water Conservation Office is launching its first-ever "Zhuzihu Free Firefly-Watching Ecological Tour," giving the public a chance to experience the area’s unique nighttime charm.

The Taipei City Soil and Water Conservation Office stated that although Zhuzihu has previously experienced landslides due to typhoons, ecological engineering restoration efforts have not only conserved water and soil but also resulted in clear water quality — an ideal habitat for fireflies. As midsummer approaches, visitors can witness fireflies dancing across the mountains and easily spot native freshwater fish, shrimp, frogs, and other aquatic creatures in the streams.

To promote ecological conservation, the Soil and Water Conservation Office will host a free ecological tour from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3rd, along the Yangming Stream in Zhuzihu. Professional guides will lead participants to explore the secret habitat of fireflies and learn about the primitive lives of these adorable animals. Registration is now open until Wednesday, April 23rd, with a limit of 40 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
