The Oscars of the Travel Industry: 2014 WTA Kicks Off Across Regions

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards is known as the Oscars of the travel industry. These awards are designed to honor the world’s leading achievements in all sectors of the tourism industry. The 2014 WTA opening ceremonies will be held successively starting in May across the Middle East, Africa & the Indian Ocean, Central & South America, North America & the Caribbean, Asia & Oceania, and Europe. The winners from each region will go through a final round of voting to determine the ultimate champions. This is the highest honor in the travel industry, and the winners will be announced at this year's WTA Grand Final night.

From best airlines, cruise lines, resorts, hotels, and beaches, to resort cities, tourist destinations, travel agencies, and transportation options, the World Travel Awards has carefully crafted awards for every category, ensuring discerning travelers can choose with confidence.

Taiwan has also been nominated in nine categories across Asia, including 2014 Leading Boutique Hotel (Hotel Quote), Asia’s Leading City Hotel (Regent Taipei), Best Design Hotel (Palais de Chine), Best Family Resort (Hotel Royal Chiao Hsi), and Leading Luxury City Hotel (Sheraton Taipei Hotel).

This year’s European nominations for Best Tourist Attractions include Amsterdam (Netherlands), Barcelona (Spain), Edinburgh (Scotland), Florence (Italy), Geneva (Switzerland), Istanbul (Turkey), Lisbon (Portugal), London, Paris, Rome, St Petersburg (Russia), and Venice (Italy).

Top tourist attractions in South America include Buenos Aires (Argentina), Easter Island (Chile), Lima (Peru), Quito (Ecuador), Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (Brazil), and Santiago (Chile).
