Last updated 2026-09-25 — Compared to the hustle and bustle of Taipei, the suburbs of Linkou feel peaceful and serene. On Wenhua 3rd Road, rows of residential buildings line the street, with a scattering of shops operating on the ground floors. Among them, “Bonheur Café” is a newcomer to the area. Officially opened less than two months ago, it has already won over the taste buds of locals with its high-quality coffee and spirit of sharing happiness. It’s even attracting visitors from Taipei who make the trip specifically for it.

Compared to the hustle and bustle of Taipei, the suburbs of Linkou feel peaceful and serene. On Wenhua 3rd Road, rows of residential buildings line the street, with a scattering of shops operating on the ground floors. Among them,Bonheur Caféis a newcomer to the area. Officially opened less than two months ago, it has already won over the taste buds of locals with its high-quality coffee and spirit of sharing happiness. It’s even attracting visitors from Taipei who make the trip specifically for it.

Stepping into Bonheur Café feels like being transported to a European countryside. Sunlight streams through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a soft and warm glow over the bar and seating area. The bright yellow-green walls proudly display the word “Bonheur,” as if greeting every guest with a “welcome.” The owner, Chen Yi-min, greets each visitor warmly. Coming to Bonheur feels like coming home.

Chen Yi-min used to live in Taipei, where he worked as a bank employee for over a decade. He often had a thought: he wanted to do something different. More than two years ago, his family moved to Linkou, and being a coffee lover, he began to think about opening a café.

His wife, Guo Z.??, who studied French, suggested using the word “Bonheur” as the café’s name. Bonheur means “happiness” in French and is composed of “Bon” (good) and “heure” (time). The couple decided to phonetically translate it as “Bonheur” (波纳荷), hoping that visitors would relax, feel happiness, and enjoy a wonderful time here.

Chen Yi-min believes that “sharing” is the source of happiness and the very purpose of a café’s existence. He offers his space free of charge for young people to exhibit their photography collections and allows latte art competitors to practice their skills in the shop. Even though outside food is not allowed, if guests bring snacks, he willingly shares them with others in the café.“When you’re willing to share with others, they’ll be willing to share with you too, and both sides can feel happy because of it.”

Bonheur Café doesn’t just focus on atmosphere—the quality of its coffee is also meticulously cared for. From being a complete novice to Italian espresso machines, Chen Yi-min has transformed into an owner who personally brews single-origin coffee for his customers. He expresses heartfelt gratitude, saying he feels very lucky to have met professional cuppers who taught him with dedication, giving him the opportunity to deeply understand coffee culture. At Bonheur, using organic and healthy coffee beans is a basic principle, aligning perfectly with the “LOHAS” (lifestyle of health and sustainability) vibe of Linkou residents.

He cleverly compares flavor profiles to musical scales, often giving customers precise descriptions of the taste of the shop’s single-origin coffees to help them choose: Ethiopia’s Yirgacheffe has an “octave” of flavors, encompassing the coffee’s acidity, sweetness, body, and layered complexity. Kenya AA and Hope Estate are like symphonies with a wider range—Kenya AA’s flavor profile is like a violin and French horn clashing, with more intense acidity and body, while Hope Estate has a piano accompaniment, offering a rich sweetness. As for Colombia’s MDLS and Panama’s Don Antonio Estate, he describes them as a four-hand piano sonata—not too acidic or bitter, but rather a blend of sweetness and aftertaste.

From being a bank employee who calculated money and personal value every day, Chen Yi-min has become an owner who treats every guest equally and wholeheartedly promotes café culture. He has brought his family closer together, running Bonheur with his wife and inviting his highly talented sister-in-law, Guo Jia-xiu, to design the interior. Upholding the spirit of “sharing happiness,” he hopes that in decades to come, the Linkou area will be filled with specialty coffee shops, creating a unique coffee culture for the people of Linkou.
