The Fulong Sand Sculpture Festival kicks off on May 3rd — World-class "sand" artists create a world in every grain

The 2014 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival will officially open this Saturday (May 3rd). This year, 30 sand sculptors from 17 countries have been invited to present the theme “An Incredible Journey of Wonders.” Through 71 sand sculptures, visitors will journey through time and space on Fulong Beach, experiencing classic adventures such as “Zheng He’s Voyages to the Western Seas”!

Now in its 7th consecutive year, the Fulong Sand Sculpture Art Festival grows more exciting each year. Although there are 6 fewer sand sculptures this year compared to last, the overall quality is no less impressive — in fact, it's even more refined and story-rich. Thirty sand sculptors, using intricate techniques aligned with the “journey” theme, will first take visitors on an Eastern expedition along the “Silk Road” with Marco Polo, then follow “Zheng He’s Voyages to the Western Seas” all the way to Africa, before traveling back to the 18th century to “Around the World in 80 Days” with the French literary master. Next, they’ll return to modern-day Taiwan to see the “Taipei 101 Building,” and finally board a “space shuttle” to outer space to admire the “Twelve Zodiac Constellations.” It’s guaranteed to be a visual feast for all.

The 2014 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival will run from May 3rd to June 30th at Fulong Beach. Organizers announced that the first 3,000 visitors on opening day (May 3rd) will enjoy free admission. They also hope to surpass last year’s attendance, exceeding 500,000 visitors.

Transportation:
1. Take the TRA train to “Fulong Station,” then walk about 5 minutes
2. Take a Kuo-Kuang Bus (Taipei–Ludong), Keelung Bus (Guojia Xincheng–Fulong), or Taiwan Tourist Shuttle (Ruifang–Fulong) to Fulong Station, then follow signs to reach the venue.
