World’s Largest Airline Alliance “Star Alliance” Mobilizes—Passengers Boarding in Xinyi District?

As one of the world’s three major airline alliances, Star Alliance launched an exclusive app in 2013 that allows passengers to stay updated on flight information from its 26 member airlines at any time. To promote its presence in Taiwan, Star Alliance held an experiential event titled “Travel. Starts with a Star” this afternoon (3rd) at Xinyi New Sanrio Aroma Square in Taipei. The venue was designed to resemble an airport layout, featuring check-in counters, X-ray machines, and more, attracting crowds to queue up and take on the challenge.

At the event, attendees could pick up an exclusive Star Alliance “boarding pass,” then proceed to the check-in counter and name any one of the alliance’s member airlines to qualify for boarding. After going through mock customs and security checks with staff, they were ready to “board.” By downloading the Star Alliance app and taking a photo with the X-ray machine to share online, participants could receive a special souvenir. Star Alliance, which has the most extensive route network among the world’s three largest airline alliances, recently welcomed EVA Airways as a new member. Lin Nan-yang, Deputy Assistant Manager of EVA’s Passenger Transport Department, noted that all member airlines within the alliance share resources, allow mileage accumulation across carriers, and provide access to 1,000 global lounges for premium passengers.

Established in 1997, Star Alliance is the first and largest airline alliance to date, with a total of 26 member companies. Through its members’ interconnected flight services, it offers passengers access to 193 countries, 18,043 daily flights, and nearly 1,300 destinations worldwide. Aside from sharing lounges, check-in services, ticketing, and other amenities, any flight operated by a member airline allows passengers to earn and redeem miles. Star Alliance’s first dedicated terminal will officially open in 2014 at London Heathrow Airport, with all member airlines expected to move in by November. The new Terminal 2 is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities designed for frequent international travelers, featuring a variety of shops and bars.

In 2013, Star Alliance also launched its exclusive app, enabling members to access real-time flight information and various service details, including comprehensive data on over 1,000 Star Alliance and member airline lounges worldwide, airport weather, city guides, and other search functions. This helps travelers manage flexible and reliable connections even when flights are delayed, reducing inconvenience and disruptions to travel plans.
