Eight New Bicycle Trails Around Sun Moon Lake – Admire Golden Dragon Mountain Sea of Clouds & Explore Puli’s Countryside

The lakeside cycling path around Sun Moon Lake has been ranked among the world’s top 10 most beautiful bike routes, thanks to the stunning lake-and-mountain scenery of Nantou. With cycling growing in popularity, the rural roads between Sun Moon Lake and Puli have also been discovered in recent years, becoming hidden gems for biking enthusiasts.

To allow more cyclists to explore more of Sun Moon Lake and Puli by bike, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration and the Nantou County Police Bureau have collaborated to turn the Longsheng Police Station and Taomi Police Station in Puli into an “Iron Horse Station” and a “Tourism Information Station.” Visitors can check travel info here and use simple bike repair tools. Additionally, the “Iron Horse Station” has been designated as a starting point for eight distinctive bike trails winding through fields and farmland, offering cycling lovers a chance to discover hidden scenic spots.

The eight new bike routes are divided into Type A and Type B, named according to their scenic features.The Sun Moon Lake Administration noted that due to road and geographical conditions, the six Type A routes are more advanced, featuring more climbs and winding paths. However, as you ride uphill, you’ll eventually be rewarded with breathtaking views of the sea of clouds surrounding Golden Dragon Mountain and its beautiful mountain scenery, which is truly enchanting. That said, some routes are steep and uneven, so they’re not recommended for beginners. Type B routes are family-friendly, passing by many specialty tourist factories and communities, or following Puli’s outer ring road near landmarks like the Earth Mother Temple and Philosophy Road, making them suitable for all ages.
